FBUC social responsibility program
The False Bay Underwater Club’s Social Responsibility Program was improved in 2003
to reach more people in the community. The tradition of helping others was always
firmly established in the club, and every year we sponsor a Christmas party where
every person attending has to bring at least one children’s toy which was donated
to a charitable cause. The charitable causes which have benefited from this initiative
in the past are: The Red Cross Children’s Hospital, The Children’s Wards at the
Brooklyn Chest Hospital, Nazareth House, and Durbanville Children’s Home.
The members decided
to raise funds to enable the club to do more for less fortunate people and organizations,
and decided to arrange educational visits to the Two Oceans Aquarium. The charitable
causes which have benefited from this initiative are: Mitchells Plain Boys Town,
Kenilworth Boys Town, Claremont Boys Town, and Lizo Nobane Orphanage in conjunction
with the “Reach for a Dream Foundation” Several donations and collections of food
parcels, clothing and other items were arranged last year for The Children’s Wards
at the Brooklyn Chest Hospital, Nazareth House, and Durbanville Children’s Home.

international coastal cleanup day
The Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup is the largest and most successful
volunteer event of its kind. Each year, thousands of volunteers from around the
globe participate, clearing tons of trash from coastlines, rivers and lakes and
recording every piece of trash collected. In conjunction with Marine and Coastal
Management, False Bay Underwater Club, other clubs and recreational scuba diving
shops, scuba diver training facilities and dive charter facilities clean up harbours,
river mouths, beaches, lagoons and estuaries every year. If you would like to participate
or organise charity events, please contact the Club.
