Nudibranches of the cape peninsula

Nudibranchs of the Cape Peninsula

Small and beautiful, with wonderful shapes and colours, nudibranchs are often a diver's favourite subject underwater. 80 species found in Cape Town's water, from the rare to the common, are described in this guide. Each species receives its own page, providing information on characteristic features, distribution, habitat, and more, as well as up to four photographs. These show different individuals, highlighting their variability, and include, where possible, the egg ribbon or mass.

News flash! The guide is now available at R135.00 plus R10 for postage and packaging for mailing anywhere within South Africa. We cannot handle overseas requests just yet. Please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

About the author: Guido Zsilavecz started diving in 1989, and took up underwater photography on his 27th dive. Early on he developed a strong lasting interest in the underwater environment, with the emphasis on fishes. This has led him to publish the first SURG guide, "Coastal Fishes of the Cape Peninsula and False Bay" in 2005. Nudibranchs were an obvious candidate for a second guide, and work on it started soon after publication of the first book. This time, instead of relying on his archive of slides, he decided to find each species again, this time capturing them digitally. To create the most comprehensive Cape Town nudibranch guide available he also used images from other underwater photographers.

Guido has written numerous articles for diving magazines, has contributed photographs to other fish identification guides, and has won awards and prizes for his photography. While he travels regularly to exotic diving locations around the world, he prefers Cape Peninsula waters most.

Coastal Fishes of the Cape Pininsula

Finally a guide dedicated to fishes found in the Cape Town area! Over 80 resident species, and a few visitors, are described. Information on characteristic features, distribution, habitat and more are provided. Each description is accompanied by at least one full colour photograph, with several used to show differences in colouration between males and females, juveniles and adults, or simply colour variants. All colour images are grouped together for quick identification, with easy cross-referencing between images and text.
